Xbox Live Update for the week of May 8 through 14, 2011

Have you ever dreamed of piloting your own mech/robot against incredibly overwhelming odds? If the answer is “every waking minute of the day” then the Xbox Live Arcade has your hookup this week. Gatling Gears is a twin-stick shooter that places you in the shoes of Max Brawley, a retired Gear pilot who’s called back into service to stop an evil empire. The steampunk-styled shooter is the first by Vanguard Games, a studio that includes former members of Guerilla Games. Guerilla gave us the Killzone series on PlayStation 3. In addition to the campaign mode, there’s a survival mode to see just how much carnage your Gear can fight off. Get ready to put that trigger finger in a sling. Gatling Gears is 1200 Microsoft Points($15).
Star Raiders is an update of the Atari 2600 classic space combat title, the first new game in the series in 25 years. Many of the elements of modern space combat games can be traced back to Star Raiders. It pits your pilot against the evil “Zylons” a nod to the Cylons of Battlestar Galactica that were popular when it released. The new game is from Incinerator Studios and still published by Atari. A new storyline includes plenty of dogfights and all-out assaults updated for the era of HD. This original had a first-person view, while the new game puts us behind the ship. It will bring back the tactical map from the original game and of course, features online co-op. Star Raiders is 800 MP($10.)
Games on Demand gets racing title DIRT 2  along with shootersVanquish and Operation Flashpoint. DIRT 2 is $29.99, Vanquish is $39.99 and Operation Flashpoint is $19.99.
The Deal of the Week is a sale on 2K Games’ content. Mafia II gives us Joe’s Adventure and Jimmy’s Vendetta for 400 MP, and a Fedora for your avatar for 80 MP. Bioshock 2 discounts the Minerva’s Den add-on to 400 MP, while The Protector Trials is 200 MP and a Big Daddy helmet is 80 MP. Borderlands offers up the Secret Armory of General Knoxx and Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution add-ons for 400 MP and a Bandit Mask for 80 MP.
